Due to climate change, sea levels are rising, and the frequency and intensity of storms are increasing. Reefs naturally protect coastlines from incoming wave energy; however, when the natural habitat is removed, coastlines become more vulnerable to erosion and storm damage. Artificial reefs can help to break up incoming wave energy, reducing coastal erosion and minimising storm damage.
